Community celebrates Fiegenschuh, Bowlin retirements

Cheyenne county residents were invited to a formal send-off for retiring clerk Beth Fiegenschuh and treasurer Shelley Bowlin Friday afternoon.

SIDNEY -- In September, Cheyenne County Clerk Beth Fiegenschuh announced her retirement, closing 31 years of service Cheyenne County in the clerk’s office. 

She said she has made many friendships in her 30-plus years; friendships that will continue into her retirement. She said she will work to make the transition as smooth as possible. Now that the announcement is made and her resignation is accepted, the emotions start setting in. 

In her retirement, Fiegenschuh said she was proud of the accomplishments in the clerk’s office. Her retirement is effective Jan. 2, 2026. 

About a month earlier, Cheyenne County Treasurer Shelley Bowlin announced she would retire at the end of the year.  

He retirement closes a career that spans nearly 40 years. She said working among the public is something she will miss the most. 

She started in the Treasurer's Office part-time in 1985 and has remained there since. She advanced to deputy, then to Treasurer. She said it's time to spend time with her husband at home. She said in August she plans to get in their side-by-side and "find some mud!" 

The Cheyenne County Commissioners appointed Sheila Von Seggern as the interim County Treasurer, and Jordan Hajek as the interim County Clerk. Von Seggern is currently working in the Treasurer’s Office and Hajek was elected as the County Assessor. The Commissioners also appointed Christina Lotton as the interim assessor.
