Paul Fehringer went to be with his Lord on February 6, 2026 surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with Parkinson's.

There will be viewing from 3pm - 6pm with Recitation of the Rosary at 6pm on Wednesday, February 11th at Tennant Funeral Home in Sterling, CO. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 12th at 10:30am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Peetz, CO with Father Joseph Oiye celebrating. Internment will immediately follow at Peetz Sacred Heart Cemetery. There will be a luncheon for friends and family at the Peetz Community Center following interment.

Paul was born on March 21, 1943 in Sterling, CO to Victor and Barbara (Wieser) Fehringer. He lived in Peetz in his family’s farm house for his entire upbringing and graduated from Peetz High School in 1961. Paul served in the Army from 1965-1971 and was awarded the Air Medal for heroism when conducting flood rescue operations, saving the lives of approximately 170 people. After his service in the army, Paul returned to his beloved hometown and bought his family farm.

Paul married Peggy Anne Benzel on April 5, 1975; they raised four children together and were married for 50 years.

Paul was very involved in his community and adored his town. He was a lifelong member of the Sacred Heart Church. Paul was a member of the American Legion Post 134 for over 50 years, where he officially held the position of treasurer but often stepped up to the plate in other areas of need, essentially becoming the backbone of his post. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and served on the boards for the Peetz Gas Station and the Peetz Telephone company.

Paul enjoyed woodworking, metalworking, playing cards, and watching sports – especially the Denver Broncos. He was an avid Peetz Bulldog fan and enjoyed being a member of the chain gang. He was a master at card games and loved to play them with his family. Paul was naturally gifted with his hands. He could fix everything and he built anything, ranging from his own quonset to yard ornaments. Whenever anyone needed help, he was there. Paul was reliable, kind, and strong. His quiet nature allowed for his actions to speak louder than any words ever could.

He was deeply loved and admired and positively impacted the lives of many.

Paul is survived by his wife Peggy Fehringer, his children Tammy (Steve) Hort, James (Derek) Simmerman, Jennifer (Scott) Mikolaitis, Tiffany (Goron) Mandich, his siblings Isabelle Volden, Anna Mae Curtis, Mary DeWeese, Leonard (Harriet) Fehringer, his sisters-in-law Alice Mitchell, Betty (LeRoy) DeVries, JoAnn Dellegge, Judy Benzel, his brother-in-law Robert Benzel, grandchildren Ethan Hort, Christian Travis, Gage (TaKayla) Travis, Lydia (Jimmy) McCoy, Alexander Mandich, and great-grandchild Violet Travis.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents Victor and Barbara Fehringer, his siblings David Fehringer, Linus Fehringer, Robert Fehringer, Melvin Fehringer, and Viola Hartley.

Memorial contributions may be made in Paul’s name to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or the Sterling Fire Department c/o Tennant Funeral Home, PO Box 1547, Sterling, CO 80751.
