Edward “Ed” Haupt, age 91, of Sidney, NE passed away at Sidney Regional Medical Center on Friday, December 12, 2025. A private family burial will take place at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney, NE and Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, January 03, 2026 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sidney with Pastor Neil Carlson officiating.

Friends may stop by the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel to leave their condolences for the family.

Edward “Ed” Haupt was born to Henry and Katherine (Eirich) Haupt in Minatare, NE on February 07, 1934. He moved to Sidney when he was five years old and attended District 36 and Sidney High School. In school he belonged to FHA and played football and graduated with the class of 1950. He married the love of his life Beverly Stibley on September 04, 1953 at St. Patrick’s Church in Sidney, NE.

As a senior in high school, he went to work for Rudy’s Market learning how to cut meat. He went on to own a small grocery store called the Star Market after the owner retired. After closing the store, he worked for a couple of grocery stores, Sidney warehousing, and ended up going to work for Ideal Linen out of Scottsbluff as a routeman/salesman. He retired in 2010 and moved to Omaha, NE.

Ed belonged to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, the National Guard, Jaycees, bowling leagues, Sidney City Councilman, and Mayor. He helped run the Sidney Country Club for several years whenever a manager desired to quit. Before retiring and after, Ed enjoyed bowling and watching his son Chuck participating in several different sports. Later he moved on to watch his grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports.

He is survived by his wife Beverly of Sidney, NE, daughter Vickie Haupt of Omaha, NE, son Charles and wife Robin Haupt of Sidney, NE; 7 grandsons Nick and wife Stacey Crom, Patrick and wife Amora Crom, Charles Haupt Jr, Derek and wife America Haupt, Richard and wife Natasha Haupt, Morgan and wife Cassie Haupt. 10 great-grandchildren; Jackson, Avery, Carter Crom, Kaylie, Gavin Crom, Hailey and Kaydence Haupt, Bentlie Price, Gage and Jett Haupt, and  his brother Jerald Haupt of Sidney, NE. Numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Katherin, sister Marie and husband Carl Kurz, Lydia and husband Fred Floher, Martha and husband Edwin Meyer, Dena and husband Ed Staible, Emma and husband Max Mathewson, brother Albert and wife Phylis, sister-in-law Glea Haupt and a great-grandson Caleb Haupt.
